As many of you know, some close friends and I began helping individuals in the Philippines following a catastrophic typhon. We have reached out a couple times a year to friends and family to help with donations in order to support these amazing individuals. However, throughout the year we endeavour to help with whatever they may need. It is that time a year again, where we are reaching out to all of you to ask for your support to give these lovely people some simple comforts, we take for granted.
In July of this year, with your generous help, we raised $940.00. This went to numerous items. We bought various baby items, including playpens, toothbrushes, diapers, and milk. Multiple educational toys were bought and distributed to children ages 8 and younger. Various food items were supplied, including, rice (regular and corn grain for those with special dietary conditions), fish and vegetables. And arguably most importantly, we were able to provide medicine to individuals in need. We like to provide full disclosure on how your donations are spent, so in an effort to remain transparent a total of $77.50 went to some discretionary funds, shipping, atm fees and gas to get the items to the village; as well as a lunch provided to the volunteers who help us ensure everyone receives the goods they need.
This December we are hoping to raise $825.00 to help cover funds we can contributed to already. Sadly, a member of the community passed away tragically and we provided $100 towards his funeral. We also purchased a mattress ($100) for an elderly couple so they could have a comfortable place to sleep. $50 went to a fishing net so the members of the community could begin to catch fish regularly for themselves and in time, maybe even sell it to other villages. $100 went to medicine and additional food for seniors in the village and $200 went to a couple mothers to assist with diapers and milk for their growing babies. Emergency aid was sent at the cost of $200 and $75 went to pay educational fees.
We recognize it is a hard time of year for many individuals to contribute to charity, especially during these economic times, but we are hopeful between the donations we provide ourselves and some help from family and friends, we can reach our $825.00 goal and maybe even surpass it!
At this time, we are still unable to provide a charity receipt. We have applied for official charity status and hope to be able to provide receipts for donations during our next campaign in the summer if all goes well with the CRA. We appreciate your understanding at this time. If you cannot provide a monetary contribution this year, we would be grateful if you would consider following our social media pages and sharing them with your friends and families.
